The Defenders

The Defenders (series, 2017) is where Jessica Jones first meets Matt Murdock — she, Matt, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand team up against the Hand, and she is memorably unimpressed by all three of them. She returns as Matt's ally in Born Again Season 2.

The four are pulled together by the Hand's plan to mine a substance from beneath New York that grants near-immortality — a dig that would collapse the city. Elektra, resurrected as their Black Sky, is their weapon, and Matt's inability to write her off is what keeps the team from simply killing her.

Danny Rand's Iron Fist is the key that opens the final door, which is why the Hand needs him alive. The building is brought down with Matt inside; he is presumed dead, and wakes in a convent under the care of the nuns who raised him. That recovery is where Born Again eventually picks him up.
