What actually happens
Jessica Jones, Season 1 (2015) A superpowered private investigator with PTSD and alcoholism, hunted by Kilgrave, a man whose voice compels absolute obedience and who once controlled her for months. She kills him. It's one of the best things Marvel has made about coercion and its aftermath.
Beyond the guide — added detail
Kilgrave's power is the engine of the whole season: anyone who hears him obeys absolutely, and believes afterwards that they chose to. That makes the show's subject consent rather than crime — his victims cannot prove what happened to them, and several do not believe it themselves. He controlled Jessica for months and she has been drinking about it since.
She runs Alias Investigations out of her apartment, defends Hope Shlottman — a girl Kilgrave forced to murder her own parents — and is helped by Trish Walker, her adoptive sister, and Luke Cage, whose unbreakable skin makes him the one person Kilgrave's usual leverage does not work on. She kills Kilgrave with her bare hands, in front of witnesses, so that Hope's conviction can be overturned.
