What actually happens

Beyond the guide — added detail

This is not in the source document. The guide's knowledge ends at roughly May 2026 and says nothing about this film; everything here was added afterwards from outside reporting, and should be read with that in mind. Endgame Encore is a theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame — the same film, not a sequel and not a new instalment — in cinemas from 25 September 2026, positioned as a refresher before Avengers: Doomsday on 18 December.

It plays in IMAX and in Infinity Vision, a Disney and Marvel certification for premium large-format screens. Selected showings carry an exclusive first look at Doomsday.

Likely

Listings give the runtime as 185 minutes against the original's 181 — roughly four minutes of new material, so a re-release with additions rather than an extended cut.

Likely

The additions are reported to be a new post-credits scene pointing at Doomsday, together with an added sequence near the end of the film.

Likely

The film has also been regraded. Trailer comparisons show deeper contrast and heavier saturation, with Thanos considerably more purple than the washed-out original theatrical cut. One of Tony Stark's lines has been altered too: ‘When you mess with time, it tends to mess back’ becomes ‘When you mess with time, time tends to mess back.’

Likely

Joe Russo has described ‘a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday’ and called the re-release required viewing for following Doomsday's story — which is the argument for treating it as more than a victory lap.

Guessing

What the new post-credits scene actually shows has not been released, and nothing above should be read as knowing it. Whether the four added minutes carry any new in-universe events — as against being a bridge for the trailer audience — is equally unknown. It sits beside Endgame on this site's timeline because its story is Endgame's story; if the new tag turns out to depict something new, that placement wants revisiting.
